Kurdistan Region of Iraq needs 15,000 housing units per year

While sources at the Ministry of Housing estimate a number of 5,000, the Minister of Planning Ali Sindi says 15,000 new housing units are needed in the region every year to meet demand.
During the recently held the 16th parliament session convened to discuss the region''s 2012 budget, minister Ali Sindi has presented many relevant statistics in the meeting.

In 2008 the region needed 120,000 housing units. Since then, 170,000 housing have been built in the region but the region''s population is rising considerably. Therefore more housing units will be needed in future, added the minister.

If the percentage of the population continues to increase by three percent every year, the region will need 15,000 units every year, explained Sindi.

So far 1tr IQD ($858.7m) have been spent on the construction of housing units, added Sindi.
